Lucas Makes Statements on Star Wars Edits.

by Michelle Lauren

Oh boy, here it comes folks.

For those of you not of nerd mentality this may be hard to understand. Last time I made mention of taking old films and editing them for re-release with CG or 3D. If done right it can be great, but most of the time doesn’t work. Disney has shown its prowess in this regard, George Lucas on the other hand fails tremendously.

Ever since the special editions came out people have been losing faith in the man. I myself have lost complete faith in him, but you loyal followers know that already. I am not here to reiterate that statement, well not entirely anyway. I’ll discuss his statements first.

Lucas claimed that the responses to the edits were pretty much ridiculous. He said they act like whenever there is an edit made to the films we the fans act like it’s the end of the world. Other films have changes made to them for DVD releases so why should we behave so betrayed with Star Wars?

The thing with the Star Wars edits that pisses people off is the fact that they don’t add anything to the experience. They only serve to take away. By adding ugly CG you take away the sense of wonder that they were able to create a great trilogy of films in the 70s mastering the art of animatronics. They managed to make silly sci-fi goofiness compelling. The new edits and films only serve to piss people off.

Case in point.

The main complaint Lucas gets is that Han Solo shot first in the Catina, not Greedo, and he shouldn’t have made that change. His response was he had a narrow shot so it only LOOKED like he shot first. He said the fans want him portrayed as a heartless killer, which he isn’t.

News flash Georgie nobody believes your bs reason and no one wants Han to seem like a killer. We only want him to be SMART. If there’s a bounty hunter who takes his sweet time blabbing away with the intent to kill you, you SHOULD shoot him.

Well the man is as stubborn as we are so this just comes off as a rant. In then end I guess we’re still at moot point.
