Reviving Films In 3D.
by Michelle LaurenWhen this matter was discussed before I could only give an uninformed outside perspective. Now, after seeing a movie in 3D, I am in a better position to talk about it and be more creditable. The reason I bring this whole thing up? Well because the Phantom Menace is back in theaters. My reaction when I first heard?

Obvious jokes aside I am displeased for other reasons, but I shall list them all. First off it’s an awful movie that doesn’t deserve any money. More importantly I find that it’s a waste of the groundbreaking 3D technology it’s supposed to flaunt. The CG in Episode I is horrible, 3D layering is not going to help guys! Some films can be improved by it. On the surface the original trilogy seems to have benefited from it right? Wrong! To me it’s a crime to add CG in a movie made in the 70s. Especially when I have in fact seen a movie where the addition of 3D was actually worth the money. Want to guess what that movie was? Here are some hints:
It’s an awesome movie that had a lot of money behind it and was very successful. If you guessed a movie directed by James Cameron you are sadly mistaken.
No the movie I saw in 3D was Beauty and the Beast. I had originally said that I didn’t care about the 3D for the Disney re-releases. I just wanted to enjoy some great movies I never got to see in theaters. That was until the last of the limited 2D showings was over and I ended up seeing the 3D. My thoughts.
HO. LY. CRAP!
Damn it Disney stop taking my money! Is my soul not enough? Seriously from the first shot everyone noticed the difference and a resounding “wow” went across the theater. You guys can picture the first scene in Beauty and the Beast right? You know, that traditional storybook opening with the castle in the distance and the waterfall? Pure 2D goodness right there, and Disney to boot.
Now imagine that scene, but 10 times BETTER. The whole movie was made even more beautiful than it already was. Even the stained glass part which is true 2D looked 3D. HOW is that possible? Not to mention the great music was in surround sound and it’s just an awesome movie in it’s own right.
So yeah sign me up for seeing the other Disney re-releases in 3D. Little Mermaid I have high expectations for. All in all 3D is expensive and experimental still. Unless it’s Disney. Then it’s expense, but of great quality.
